South Yorkshire’s growing reputation as an AI hub just gained another name. MyAutoBot — a new Voice AI business founded by a team from Sheffield and Rotherham — has launched, bringing to market an AI-powered personal and business assistant designed to do something deceptively hard: answer the phone, intelligently, every time.
Billed as an “AI-Powered Personal & Business Assistant,” MyAutoBot positions its Voice AI as a always-on front desk for small and medium-sized businesses and time-poor executives. According to the company, the assistant handles inbound calls around the clock, screens out spam and nuisance callers, and integrates with the user’s calendar so genuine enquiries can be captured, qualified and booked without a human ever missing a ring.
Why voice, and why now
The timing is deliberate. Voice has quietly become one of the most active frontiers in applied AI: the technology has reached the point where a synthetic agent can hold a natural, real-time phone conversation, understand intent and take action. For a small business, the economics are compelling — missed calls are missed revenue, and few SMEs can justify a full-time receptionist. An AI that never sleeps, never takes lunch and filters the time-wasters is a genuinely useful proposition rather than a novelty.
Built in South Yorkshire
What makes MyAutoBot a story for The North is its roots. Founded by entrepreneurs from Sheffield and Rotherham, it is the latest example of serious AI capability being built outside London — in a part of the country better known historically for steel than for software. It joins a widening cluster of South Yorkshire technology firms, from advanced-manufacturing AI around the AMRC to a growing base of startups proving that frontier products can be built, and headquartered, in the region.
It is early days, and a launch is a starting line, not a finish. But MyAutoBot’s arrival is another data point in a trend The North has tracked all year: the next generation of AI businesses does not have to cluster in the capital.
